From a young age, Sieglinde Van Damme was captivated by art. As a little girl, she loved visiting her uncle’s studio and would watch her mother closely as she painted in the dining room. Van Damme was fascinated by the process and enjoyed seeing the paintings evolve.
After her studies, Van Damme moved to the United States, where her talent began to shine. She quickly completed the Art Studio Certificate Program at UC Berkeley Extension and fell in love with painting and the endless possibilities of experimenting with mixed media.
For the past two decades, the overarching theme in Van Damme’s work has been pushing boundaries—a true exploration of what more is possible. When she learns a new technique, she first follows the rules, then asks herself what else she can do with it.
In a painterly manner, she builds up layers of textured lines, one on top of the other, while subtle colors shine through, as if another story lies hidden beneath the surface, waiting to be revealed.
