Jack Berben

When Jack Berben first encountered art, he felt an innate urge to create. There is something about the unpredictable process of creation that draws him in—the trial and error, followed by a sense of satisfaction and harmony.

At an early age, Jack was introduced to the workings of the art world. His grandfather, Jac. Douven, was a photographer and painter. Jack associates the smell of oil paint with his grandfather’s studio. His mother was a talented draftsman and painter, and his close friend and fellow artist, Theo Pensaert, has also been a source of inspiration for him.

In his sculptures, Jack values the relationship with the pedestal and the various proportions that lead to asymmetry. He is also fascinated by rust. The emergence of rust through natural processes and the exceptional colors it displays are elements he wants to bring into his sculptures. Through his art, Jack aims to express himself in an unpredictable process. Sometimes, his hands take over the process from his conscious mind.
