Mathieu Delaunay

Since his youth, Mathieu has shown a distinct creative inclination. After deciding to pursue a career as a cabinetmaker at the age of fourteen, he set up his own business in Obourg (Mons) in 2016. However, it was his discovery of woodturning that would fundamentally transform his approach to his craft.

By interweaving various techniques, e.g. carving, woodturning, and sculpture, Mathieu creates pieces of great originality.

His first exhibition at the St’art Gallery (2025) came about following a meeting with artist Alfredo Longo.

Mathieu’s sculptures are the result of a dialogue between various materials. Wood has retained its prominent role, but the addition of color and the incorporation of objects create a subtle contrast, a contemporary dimension that intrigues viewers. He gives recycled materials, including pins, toys, vinyl, jewelry, and metal, a new lease on life within his work.

Mathieu’s practice explores the tension between natural matter and human creation, between heritage and innovation. A universe where the forgotten and the new meet.
